It’s not new!
A newspaper article over the weekend told about an enterprising 23 year old who used social media to land himself his first job in PR back in 2007.
First he used Twitter to ask if anyone could recommend any PR agencies outside London.
Then he targeted the one he wanted to work for, set up a Facebook page detailing why he wanted to work there and asked his Twitter friends to lend support.
Then he invited some of the agency staff to join in. Within days he had an interview and is now a senior excutive at the company.
You could argue that his job hunting methods were a particularly good ‘fit’ for the post he was after yet a US recruitment firm has predicted that within five years as many as half of all job interviews could arise from contacts made on social networking sites and forums rather than traditional adverts.
What have we been saying since day one?
Get out and network!
Others are… and it’s working for them…
